A great weekend's racing for the three-driver Pursuit Racing team at the 2022 Donington Historic Festival
May 2, 2022
The Royal Automobile Club Pall Mall Cup at Donington is a three-hour endurance race for pre-‘66 GT and Touring Cars, pre-‘63 GT Cars and pre-‘61 Sports Cars. Held on the final day of the Donington Historic Festival, the cars race into the sunset and bring the weekend to an exciting close.
Since its debut in 2020, the three-hour endurance event has become a favourite amongst historic competitors. Run in a multiple-driver team format, with two or three drivers sharing a car, the race features refuelling pitstops to heighten the tension.
Cars in the varied grid include Cobras, E-type Jaguars, Lotus Elans, Porsche 911s and MGBs, quick touring cars like Mustangs and Falcons, early GT cars including big Healeys and the epic classic Le Mans Jaguars. An interesting development for 2022 is the addition of GTP cars under 2-litres.
We were delighted to bring the Shelby Cobra to Donington for the 2022 Pall Mall Cup. Drivers were Richard Cook, James Baker and James Cottingham. New to the historic racing paddock, James Baker brings a wealth of modern race experience and has recently been testing our GT40 in preparation for the Motor Racing Legends three-race Amon Cup.
When the organisers cancelled the Donington GT40 Amon Cup race, James slotted into the Pall Mall lineup and proved a worthy addition; the Cobra qualified inside the top ten around a dry but cloudy Donington. In the three-hour race on Sunday evening, the terrific trio made up five places, coming home just off the podium.
Our next event is the Peter Auto Spa Classic from May 20th-22nd. We'll have four cars on track including the Riley and Scott, Cobra and the duelling Elans. Racing at Spa-Francorchamps is always fantastic, so we're looking forward to a great weekend. Thanks to RWC Photography for the Donington photos - check out more on our Instagram page!
