The Role
We are currently recruiting for a Number 1 Mechanic. The successful candidate will be maintaining our clients’ high-performance vehicles to race cars such as LMP, GT, Chevrons, Cobra, E Type and GT40, with most work being to a bespoke level within the motor racing market.

This position is full time, working 40 hours per week between Monday and Friday, as well as weekend work for race events (you will be informed of this in advance).


Main responsibilities

  • Report into workshop manager/MD on a day to day to basis
  • Responsible for all aspects of the car race journey, from workshop to circuit
  • Effective time management of the team for all assigned projects
  • Represent the brand at client-facing events, such as testing, racing and rally events, demonstrating Pursuit’s modern, forward-thinking and visionary approach to historic motorsport
  • Work within budgets and timeframes as agreed with the workshop manager/MD, escalating concerns in a timely manner
  • Overall responsibility for assembly and technical management of all aspects of the car
  • Carry out vehicle maintenance and repair work in accordance with technical procedures and at an exceptionally high standard
  • Ensure vehicles are kept clean and presentable
  • Responsible for all car paperwork journey up to and including submission to Accounts.
  • Update of the labour sheet through projects, ensuring accuracy
  • Ensure the race book is always up to date
  • Ensure all documents are completed and submitted between each race before the car goes to the event and during each event.
  • Have full knowledge of the job description of those in your team
  • Train and develop the mechanic 2, trainee and junior demonstrating the accurate completion of tasks.
  • Ensure pack boxes are complete and cleaned down in between each race. Look after and maintain and equipment in the workshop
  • Support, comply and ensure complicity with Health and Safety Regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards and all other Company policies and procedures
  • Ensure the general cleanliness and organisation of the workshop, dedicating time to maintaining the modern presentation of the space
  • Uphold and champion Company values taking personal pride in the flawless execution of required duties
  • Champion the importance and implication of maintaining high levels of client satisfaction and ensure that they are met at all times both at events and in the workshop
  • Operate equipment and carry out all duties in a safe, measured manner, supervising the junior team on any unknown equipment
  • Assist management with the introduction of new methods of work designed to improve efficiency
  • Ensure paperwork and documentation is up to date
  • Ensure spare boxes are kept up to date and tidy
  • Support Pursuit’s drive for inclusiveness and transparency in the workplace
  • Ensure when out in Company vehicles your driving in a respectful manor and if towing all the necessary documents have been completed before setting off
  • Manage the start and finish process of a car’s journey in the workshop liaising with Chief Technician and Parts Coordinator. Corresponding with the right person on the job or question
  • Report any issue or unforeseen problems to the Chief Technician outside the agreed budget


The ideal candidate

  • Full clean UK driving license
  • 10+ year of Historic but mainly Modern era historic 2000s +
  • Exercises substantial initiative / judgement in working methods
  • Works independently and is reviewed infrequently with minimal supervision
  • Advanced skills and knowledge of:
    Fibreglassing
    Fabrication
    Welding
    Tools and equipment for assigned cars
    Diagnostic tools for assigned cars
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Capable of identifying hose fitting, adapters and thread sizes using a vernier calipers and thread gauges
  • Undertake continuous professional development
